Dr. Hedrick's Bio
Gary Hedrick began working with CJFM as a part-time writer and Midwestern field representative. He had acquired a burden for Jewish ministry as a result of his friendship with two notable Jewish Christians - Charles Halff and Hyman Appleman.

Later, at Dr. Halff's request, he moved his family to San Antonio, Texas, so he could assume the presidency of the ministry. Although Dr. Hedrick is not Jewish, he calls himself a "Messianic Gentile," a Gentile follower of the Jewish Messiah - and often tells people he has a "kosher heart."

Dr. Hedrick did his undergraduate studies at Bob Jones University, where he majored in Bible and minored in Greek. In May of 2003, he was awarded an honorary doctor of divinity degree (DD) from Antioch Bible College and Seminary in Marietta, Georgia, the school that bestowed the same degree on a young Jewish Christian evangelist named Charles Halff 35 years earlier. Today, Dr. Hedrick's down-to-earth Bible teaching, from a distinctively first-century, Jewish viewpoint, is heard around the world each weekday on the Messianic Perspectives Radio Network, and also via an Internet webcast, podcast, and vodcast.

HANUKKAH

DEC 22, 2008

Hanukkah is not mentioned in the Tanakh; however, it is alluded to in the apocrypha books of 1 Maccabees and 2 Maccabees. In the Second Century BCE, Judah Maccabees and his brothers led a revolt against Antiochus IV Epiphanes, who had desecrated the Temple, murdered Jewish citizens, and outlawed the Jewish religion. In 165 BCE, Judah successfully reclaimed the Temple and rededicated it. The 8-day festival of Hanukkah was instituted to celebrate that rededication. The Gospel of John references the festival in Chapter 10, verse 22: “Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter.”
